The wind blew softly. Even though it was the middle of the day of course with the sun blazing out, the air was still ice cold. The ground around her was white, like a little planet of snow. She ducked her head and pushed opened the icy door leaving the snow behind. As the door swung shut she lifted her head and sucked in a lungful of air. The smell of bitter and sweet coffee with tasty pastries drifted in the air. The warm pink tongue of hers ran over her lips. She was hungry, but not wolf hungry. The warm air of the building surrounded her. She wasn't cold from outside of course. It was natural for her to be running a fever twenty four seven. She walked forward ignoring the eyes of a group of young college guys. They were cute but she knew better than that to be involved with humans. She kept walking until she reached the counter. A guy stood in the uniform with a slightly bored look. He brightened up a bit with interest as she leaned against the green counter top looking up at the menu.
Zara looked weird, or interesting to the people inside Starbucks. She had on a thin black t-shirt with big blue words saying RAWR. Super skinny deep blue jeans ran down her legs. A pair of black converse with blue and black checkered shoe laces covered her feet. Black hair hung down over her shoulders. She twisted her lips to the side thinking. "Welcome to Starbucks, May I help you? the boy had found his voice. She flickered her blue gray eyes at him for a second then to the board. Finally with a heavy sigh she stood up and pressed a finger to her pocket. "Ummm. I will have a small Mochafrappachino with whipped cream and a blueberry muffin please." she smiled sweetly to the boy. He nodded and punched in buttons to the machine in front of him. Her left hand dug in for a crumpled ten and she handed it to him. The change was a couple of dollar and pennies. She shoved it back in and glanced around the room.
Again she caught those guys looked at her. With a roll of her eyes she spotted empty seats and a old couple walking out. Black earphones ran from her right ear connecting to her iPod in the right pocket. Apparently the other earphone was tucked in with the small device. A movement made her turn and she watched the guy hand her the drink and muffin. "Thanks hun." she cooed and took her food and drink walking off without another word. Her eyes were spotted on the back corner. She could feel eyes on her and it bugged her a bit. Taking the seat and setting the food and drink down, she sighed and pressed a button on the device. Music blared into her ear. Loud enough for her to hear, but softly so no one else can. She took a gulp of the hot liquid and then a tiny bite of the muffing. Quickly she inhaled the air around her. The scents of humans filled mostly covering up the stale old smell of vampires and surprisingly a werewolf or two.
Curiosity hit her. She wondered who in the world was here, werewolf of course. Zara's melodic voice sang out a bit with the lyrics of Still Fly. "Gator Boots, with the pimped out gucci suit ain't got no job, but I stay sharp can't pay my rent, cause all my money's spent but thats ok, cause im still fly." she stopped and ate her muffin in silence. Before she knew it the muffin was almost gone when a mixed smell came in. It was hard to figure out from the breeze of cold air mixed with human and possibly a vamp. But the wolf smell was strong. She felt a piece of the muffin hit her throat and got stuck. A hand covered her mouth as she coughed hard a couple of times. Eyes watered up as she tried to get the piece of food down and breathe. Heads turned and she grabbed her drink and gulped the warm coffee mix in. Finally she got it down and leaned back in her chair sighing. But her body posture was tense as she turned her head to see who the newcomer was.

Whenever money became low, it became time for the girl to take that form and find a way to get some more. It had been that reason she found herself wandering the street with her arms wrapped around herself. All the events of the night before were blocked out and she was focusing on the fact that she had enough money to get herself a warm coat and something to fill her stomach.
Humans she passed gave her odd looks and kept a distance from her. Her clothing had seen better days. Portions were worn and stained, faded from the color they had been. The fabric was torn in places, leaving a way for the snow to find its way in. Her tennis shoes were out of place in a terrain that saw more snow than pavement the majority of the year. The sole on the left shoe was flopping and snapping with each step. Her face was hollow and drawn, slanted to stare at the frosted ground so she didn't misplace a step and fall flat on her face. Her peppered silver hair curtained around her face, giving her ears some protection against the bitter cold.
She really needed to get that coat.
It was when she stopped at a street corner that the scent hit her full force. The smell was tempting and warm. She tilted her head up, sniffing the wind like the beast she was. It was close, whatever the smell was. She frowned and looked around, trying to find the source of the smell. One instant it was sharp on the air, and then when the traffic moved and people pushed past her it was gone again.
She reached up for the strap of her knapsack, wrapping her cold fingers about the fabric. It had to be close by. She glanced back and forth faster, wrapping her other arm around her torso. The wind picked up once more and sent a chill down to her bones. She had to find that source.
This time when the scent hit, she rushed for the smell. The loud blast of a horn and the screech of rubber against metal broke her concentration and she leaped backward, narrowly missing the station wagon that went sliding past. Damn. She had not been away from civilization that long not to notice the dangers of it.
She shook her head rapidly to clear it, ignoring the shouts around her. The driver. Some people on the sidewalk near her. She narrowed her bright blues on them and growled, a sound no human could easily make. It was enough to silence them. Just long enough. She looked to the street lights, seeing her chance. She moved about the station wagon and crossed the street quickly, all but skating on her shoes until she caught herself under the awning for the place the scent was coming from.
Starbucks Coffee. The name should have been familiar to her, but she honestly could not place it. Regardless, the warm and tempting scent was coming from this building. She needed to get out of the cold. Warm up, maybe get something to fill her stomach while she still had some money to do so. It was not the worst plan.
She pulled the door open and walked in with a small sigh of relief. She stood two steps in from the door, just basking in the sensation of the heated air and the rich scent of the drinks and food prepared. She had been lost in herself so far that she had nearly forgotten the small things in life that made it all bearable.
Her euphoria only lasted a moment before she was nudged aside by a man making his way to the door. She turned her torso and glared at his back before walking forward so she could look at the menu and the various foods on display before her.
Some people just didn't appreciate atmosphere.

Blue gray orbs saw the appearance of a girl. A girl with the scent of a werewolf. Her eyes narrowed. She was expecting some male wolf, maybe. She never, well mostly, have seen a werewolf girl besides herself. Of course she figured there was one or two more. A small hint of stupidity washed through her lightly like a mist. She shouldn't be so judgmental. Her muscles relaxed, but her shoulders were stiff and she let her eyes take in the details of the woman. She was lean of course. The curtain of silver hair having the looks of if someone sprinkled pepper over it, curved around her face delicately. She was lean, heading for a thin side. It figured from her outward appearance of old, faded clothes of hers with a hole here and there. Some faints of old stains hinted on her clothes. Those thin arms of hers wrapped around her torso from the cold. Zara didn't understand how the cold affected some wolves. It barely bugged her skin. Her hearing caught the sigh of relief for warmth from the unknown were. She brought the last portion of her muffin to her lips and chewed it slowly. Her eyes trailing after the girl as she walked to the register to look at the menu.
A small flapping sound came from one of her dirty, beaten down tennis shoes. Zara sighed and felt pity for the girl. She let her eyes wonder to the guys who had watched the girl as well. Their own pair flickered to Zara for a minute and then back to their food. She hear whispers from the small group and let her hands wrap around the cup of coffee. The words from 30H!3 started to pour into her ears. The voices sang "Don't Trust Me" lyrics and she closed her eyes. She was sure this girl could smell her. Her hands lifted the cup and she sipped on the warm liquid for a second or two before holding it in her lap. A hand came off and pressed the pocket where the iPod hung inside and turned it off. Her eyes looked up from the drink.

It was sad how a small amount of warmth could mean as much as it did. Usually she was perfectly warm outside, but she had not eaten in a few days and she had been wandering as a wolf for long enough that her body needed to readjust. The cold in this part of the world was sharp enough to bite even those who were able to withstand some of the worst cold. The human form did not have as many barriers to the cold as the other one did.
It took a few moments before she came up with something that wouldn't be bad to eat. She ordered a black iced tea with a sweetener with a bagel and cream cheese. One of the few things that she could handle in the end off of their menu. Not anything perfect, but it would give her something for her stomach. She ignored the odd looks the man behind the counter was giving her and gave him her money, walking away before he could offer the change. Whatever it was, he could just put it into that jar before his station.
She walked toward the counter with various utensils and extras to put into what drinks people bought. Nothing was going to be smart to add into hers, but napkins would be a good idea for the food. By the time that she had gotten her napkins she noticed something she had not picked up on before. The scent of another wolf. She froze, her back stiffening a moment before she casually glanced around. It had been some time since she scented another wolf. Especially a female wolf. She had grown up in a pack and knew there were others out there, but she had not expected to run into one so quickly.
Glancing about she eventually found herself staring long at the girl who was sitting by herself, with some odd things stuck in her ears. It was how she was looking in her direction and how others were staring at the girl as much as they were herself. Yes. That had to be the source of the scent. She watched the other girl evenly with her brilliant blue eyes before her name was called.
She turned to the person who was waving the large drink and bag with the pastry within it. Her stomach rumbled and she moved to grasp the two items. It was nice to be able to just buy her food rather than hunt for it. Hunting too far more effort than it was worth some days.
She lifted the bag to her nose and inhaled deeply. The smell was wonderful, even if it was topped with more things than she was used to. She sighed softly and glanced around again. The place was pretty damn full. She did not have many choices for where to sit. Seemed a good enough ploy as any other.
She walked right over to the table with the other female werewolf, shrugging the shoulder with her knapsack on it to move it further up onto her shoulder. "Mind if I sit?" Her alto voice was a bit louder than usual, trying to overcome the noise in the place as well as the possible noise from whatever it was on her ears.
